History;

Note: Nehan's background has characters with names that differ between the JP and EN scripts, and my personal preference is to use JP names because I find the EN names awkward to spell.

Hidden within a valley was a hamlet called Karm, home to a clan of Erune who specialized in various ways of killing others. This lifestyle of theirs went back to a war that shaped the Sky Realm, where mortals and primal beasts fought back against the realm's colonizers and the primals' creators, a race of immortals called the Astrals, and secured their freedom. The Karm clan participated in the Astral War under a secretive science organization called the Jorha, and once it ended, they cut themselves off from the rest of civilization, only emerging when someone needed another assassinated.

Two thousand years after the war, they were all murdered by a young child named Xing, whom they forcefed a stimulant called Trancensia, which removed the limitations of his strength but induced an uncontrollable aggression in him. Xing was well-known in the clan not just as their leader's son, but also as someone with unfathomable power that they considered him a monster. Thus he was forced into their coming-of-age ritual, which involved controlling oneself under the influence of the potion, an attempt by his father to make him more accepted in their society that backfired massively.

Only one boy managed to escape the massacre... only to be picked up by slave traders and bought by high-ranking members of a mafia family called the Magasin, which had old ties to the Jorha and thus knew where he had come from. However, he was both a slave and a trophy for them, and they were not kind.

The boy now called "Nehan" weathered his abuse by calling this life his fate and killing his emotions, and used herbal remedies that his family specialized in to treat other slaves. His masters noticed, and forced Nehan into making drugs, which the boy did because at the time, he was afraid of dying-- which then turned into Nehan leading their drug operations with addictive substances based on his clan's recipes. At the same time, the mafia became more physically violent with him, leaving lasting scars all over his body. He allowed himself one emotion over the years, hatred, and thought of revenge against Xing even if he knew it wouldn't solve anything-- it kept him from killing himself, his mind having changed from wanting to survive into wanting to die once he lived in the mafia for long enough. Only the thought of revenge against Xing and apathy for everything else helped him live.

The one highlight of his life was meeting Mugen, a massive Draph on an abandoned island who developed the mindset and personality of a feral woodland child due to isolation from people, the rest of the population having died out soon after his birth. Despite having come only to study the island's poisonous flora and fauna, Nehan took the time to teach Mugen speech and basic civilized concepts. However, Nehan discovered that Mugen had the power to challenge gods, and needed to be hidden from the Magasin. Nehan chose to leave him behind, and urged him to seek out Stardust Town, a child-only slum.

During his tenure with the mafia, he discovered that Xing became "Six", a member of a crew of the most powerful combatants in the Sky Realm called the Eternals, and enacted his plans for revenge. He handed an international crew of militaristic peacekeepers called the Enforcers evidence of Six's crimes against the clan to demand justice, while directing the Magasin to move in on one of the Eternals' territories-- Stardust Town itself, which now housed Mugen. However, both the Enforcers and Eternals knew that his claims were fishy, and the latter roped in another skyfaring crew for assistance. With three different enemies bearing down on them, the Magasin was all but ruined.

In the end, after all his hard work and the atrocities he committed in the pursuit of revenge, Nehan issued one last duel against Six in the ruins of their former home. Despite Nehan pulling out all the stops, even taking Trancensia for himself, Six won and returned to the Eternals, and Nehan prepared to go into hiding because of all the problems he caused for the famiglia.

Unfortunately, the Magasin still caught up to him, and he was shot (presumably in the back) in an assassination attempt. Mugen and Six returned him to Stardust Town where he could be cared for, but instead of responding to treatments and magic, Nehan slipped into a deep coma. It was decided that he would stay in town until he woke, under the guise of holding him for the Enforcers-- though more likely out of respect for Mugen's attachment to him.

A year and three months later, Six sent along a talisman for good dreams, which was immediately applied to Nehan's bed. By coincidence, or perhaps because the talisman was indeed magical, Nehan experienced a dream wherein he realized that his new family, Mugen, was waiting for him, finally making him wake up.

All was still not right when he came out of the coma. The vision in his left eye was so weak that he chose to cover it up rather than compromise his whole vision. His left arm and leg were still in full working order, but he could barely feel anything on that side, let alone move them, requiring a cane to get around. Nehan's first day was miserable, and he attempted to distance himself from his new reality and Mugen. However, an encounter with one of his drug's victims in Stardust Town made him realize that he needed to make things right by Mugen and the children, rather than fantasize about death. He decided he would stay in Stardust and offer his services as a doctor.

At some point, he was invited to join the crew that had a hand in defeating the Magasin, and he accepted for some reason. Perhaps it was because of, or for Mugen, or Six, or the twins-- all of whom are part-time crew members and close friends of the captain. Who knows? He's just fighting things for the captain now, in between taking care of a town full of kids.
